Shaun's Lunch for Work, in a new box!

No lunch bentos today for any of us. Since Shaun was off, he took us to E Ji Bon for real bentos. Much better than my fake Americanized versions. The kids & I had chicken teriyaki, rice, gyoza, tempura, miso soup, salads and oranges.

I packed Shaun's lunch for tomorrow in his handy-dandy laptop lunch. I'm sure he's not as thrilled as I am, but hey, it's lunch. He is having a chef salad with cheese, egg & ham (bottom left), grapes (bottom right), hardboiled egg & dressing container for the salad (upper right), 3 mini strombolis, some Oreos and a marshmallow treat (upper left). I kind of wish someone would pack *me* a lunch.

An uninspired lunch, but a better dinner

After Faith's VBS, Ben took a nap, so we had a terribly uncreative lunch (tuna salad sandwiches). They did not warrant a picture.
To make up for it, we had a more creative dinner tonight, since Shaun is at work.

We have cold pasta salad with sausage, topped with a cheese star, flower shaped cheese & crackers, a grape flower with carrot stem & leaves, and heart shaped bananas. Once again, it is on dishwasher safe plates.

The lighting in my kitchen sucks & I don't know quite how to make the picture look better, but you get the idea.

A Monday lunch at home

We have a mixture of turkey & ham sandwiches--the turkey are chicks and the ham are bunnies. There is a grape flower, some goldfish pretzels, and a few pear & strawberry cream cheese rolls.

Why, you may ask, is it not in a real bento box? Well, we are at home and real bento boxes are not dishwasher safe. So we are using plates I can throw in the dishwasher afterwards. :o)

In other news, Ben & I made the trek into Dallas while Faith was at VBS to buy Shaun his very own laptop lunch. I'm sure he'll be thrilled. :oP

Shaun's Lunch for Work for Saturday

Darn, forgot to take a picture of it. I used the Lock&Lock containers again. I really want to get one of the Laptop Lunch boxes for him.

Either way, one side held a chef salad with ham, cheese & boiled egg, plus a container of ranch dressing.

The other side had a tuna salad sandwich, pretzels and grapes.

He did comment that his wasn't cut in to cute shapes. ;o)

Shaun's Lunch for Work for Friday

Faith doesn't need a lunch for tomorrow and I've finally found a temporary container for Shaun (the Lock & Lock ones at Target, I bought 2 sizes to test out).

So in his lunch tomorrow--
2 homemade calzones
A boiled egg
Lettuce salad with carrots & cheese (hard to see, but it's under there)
Container of pizza sauce for calzones (little blue container 1)
Container of balsamic vinegarette (little blue container 2)

More new bento stuff

So after dropping Faith off today, and having breakfast, and going to Sam's, Ben & I decided to check out the new Asian market on Legacy & Central.

New single tiered bento with built-in fork & spoon holder, new water bottle

Inside of the bento

Krysta, this is the one I was thinking might work for Lucy for snacks next year.

Bento #10 - Faith's Lunch for Daycamp

Top tier - Carrots with ranch dressing, pasta salad with sausages
Bottom tier - Fruit kebabs, teddy grahams

New Boxes!

Today was a good mail day.

The postman brought a lovely package from Japan with 2 new Bento boxes for Faith and 2 rice molds (Hello Kitty & a bear).

Faith's snack bento:

And her actual bento complete with its own bag:

Bento #6 & 6a - Sunday Lunch

We were supposed to meet friends today, but the place ended up being closed. Since I already had the bentos packed, the kids ate them anyhow.

Tuna salad with cheese stars in tortilla scoops
Pretzel goldfish
The inside container holds grapes (Shinkansen for Ben, Hello Kitty for Faith)
The outside container has chocolate chip cookies (Shinkansen for Ben, Hello Kitty for Faith)

The reason behind the internal boxes? If Ben saw the cookies or grapes, that would have been the end of the tuna salad and pretzels, so I had to keep it hidden till he was done.

And Ben has a matching temporary bento just like Faith's!

Bento #5 - Saturday Lunch

Tuna salad boats with tostada chip bottoms, pretzel masts & cheese sails
Goldfish "sharks" (they are disproportionately large in comparison to the boats)
Fruit Salad (honeydew, grapes & cantelope)
Marshmallow fruit jam treat
Not pictured - carrot sticks & ranch

I did cheat, it's not in a real bento box, just a divided plate. I started to put it in one, then realized no sense in dirtying the box and wasting paper supplies when I can stick it on a plate that goes in the dishwasher.

Bento #4 - Faith's Lunch for Daycamp

Bear & Bunny shaped sandwiches
Boiled Egg
Fruit Kebabs
Carrot Sticks with ranch dressing (ranch is in the little HK bottle)
2 marshmallow fruit thingies

Bento #3 - Faith's Lunch for Daycamp

Cold macaroni salad with chicken
Shaped cheeses
Goldfish pretzels (I wanted pretzel rods, but we are out)
Honeydew & cantalope
2 marshmallow/fruit jams (wish I knew what they were called)

The salad box is a teeny Hello Kitty bento, so just stuffed it inside our temporary bento (the pink basket one). Our real one should be in soon, I hope!

Bento #2 - Faith's Lunch for Daycamp

Faux temaki (spring roll wrappers stuffed with shredded chicken, cheese mixed with mayo)
Bunny shaped cheese with Ritz crackers
Grapes
Boiled Egg
Carrot Sticks
All in our *new* temporary bento box.

I found the most wonderful store close to us with tons of Bento supplies, and no shipping from Japan! ;o)

Bento #1 - Faith's Lunch for Daycamp

Faux sushi (ham, marble cheese, onion/chive cream cheese, really flattened white bread)
Doll shaped cheese
Melon fruit salad (since we are out of grapes)
Boiled egg
All stuffed into our really temporary bento while we wait for our real one to arrive from Japan.

She also has to take a snack in the mornings, so I went ahead and made her homemade trail mix to take (honey nut cheerioes, cinammon graham squares, teddy grahams, raisins, mini M&Ms).
