Chicken Noodle Bento Recipe (on request)

This was pretty simple. :o)

Started with a couple of chicken breasts, cut them into little chunks.

Put them in a pot of water and boiled them.

Once the water was at a nice boil, added a couple tablespoons of minced onion, couple tablespoons of minced garlic and a couple of tablespoons of chicken bouillion.

Let that simmer for about 2 hours, then added just the noodles from a pack of Ramen soup mix (Faith wanted those noodles).

Cooked it till the noodles were the right consistency, then removed from the eat.

I put the noodles and chicken in their bento boxes and put the broth in a coffee mug for them to drink instead, but no reason it couldn't all be eaten as soup. Shaun's was from the same batch, but I sprinkled black & red pepper on his for more flavor.

Tuesday lunches for Cara ;o)

Since I was asked why I hadn't posted in a few days, I scrapped the plans for leftovers and made the kids bentos. ;o)

Ben has ham & cheese faux sushi, goldfish pretzels, grapes & strawberries, in his Shinkansen box.

Faith has the same "sushis" and pretzels, but she got some cucumber flowers and carrots sticks to go with her grapes & strawberries. We finally got to use this Hello Kitty box too.

And because I'm sure you're all dying to see my adorable children ...

Shaun's Chicken Noodle Lunch

He essentially got the same thing as the kids--chicken & noodles (but his have red pepper on them), a salad with some kind of dressing, grapes and the last rice krispy square.

Chicken Noodle Bentos

Since Ben has a double ear infection, I made soup last night for him. I made enough soup to feed a small army, so it is becoming today's lunch too. Imagine this times 2, I didn't take pictures of both since they are identical except for box color.

To the left, we have noodles & chicken from the soup (yes, those are ramen noodles, Faith desperately wanted them in the soup). To the right, there are 2 donut holes and some grapes. Simple comfort food. The kids also have coffee mugs of chicken broth. :o)
These are the Spongebob bentos, sans lids, that we got in Canada. I really like the size of these. Krysta, since you asked, yours are the ones like this with the green/yellow bottom and the navy lid.

Our DMN Bentos!

And what are DMN bentos you might ask? They are the ones we made because one of the photographers from the Dallas Morning News was coming to take pictures for an article!!! :o)

Faith had her double tiered Hello Kitty box. Upper tier included cucumber stars & carrot sticks, 2 pork dumplings, 1/2 a star boiled egg, a few crackers & bunny shaped cheese. The bottom tier held strawberry cream chees & banana "sushi rolls" and fruit kebabs.

Benjamin had his Shinkansen shaped box with transportation ham&cheese sandwiches, goldfish pretzels, grapes and a blueberry yogurt jelly.

Faith's Flower Lunch

We opted for a "flower" theme today. If I was a more creative person, I would have cut the fruits into flowers. However, I value having *all* my fingers and figured nothing good was going to come out me, a knife & grapes.

Faith chose her blue HK box today. On the left, we have decidedly uncreative fruit salad and panda cookies. On the right, we have cucumber flowers, an egg flower, turkey & cheese sandwich flowers, and carrots (they could be stems!).

Faith's Hot Lunch at Home

Since we were home, I figured it was time for a hot bento. ;o) And it was a good excuse to use this Hello Kitty box Faith has been dying to use.

And her lunch:

We have 2 sweet & sour meatballs, 2 strawberries, a HK shaped rice mold which she gave eyes & nose with peas), 2 steamed pork dumplings, some peas and a rice krispy square that Daddy made last night.

Faith's Lunch at Home

I'm bored, Faith is bored, Ben is napping, so we decided to make her a bento lunch to use her new box.

She got yet another box yesterday while we were at Minoya. They won't let you use credit cards unless the purchase is over $10 and mine was $8.50. So we found this cute little box for $1.69 and added it in.

Hello Kitty with a hand, snap on the front and one divider. It also came in pink which she wanted but I convinced her that blue was nice for a chance. Everything else is varying shades of pink, so why not shake it up with blue. ;o)

And her rather uninspired lunch--grapes, carrots, half the heart egg, and elephant & giraffe shaped sandwiches. She's eating marshmallow jams now that didn't make the picture. For those taking notes, I really really need to go to the grocery store or no one is going to be eating lunches around here.

Egg Molds!!!

My egg molds came in today, so we had to test them out. Good thing I had all of 2 eggs left (yes, we need to go shopping after our vacation).
I give you a heart & star shaped egg:
And yes, the picture sucks, but it's pretty hard to take pictures of *white* eggs on *white* plates, so I had to use a lid instead for color contrast.
FYI, Faith already demolished the heart shaped egg.

Faith's Wednesday Picnic Bento

She wants one last picnic with my mom. :o)

So she has peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in dog shapes, crackers underneath the sandwiches, cheese in dog shapes, carrots, cucumber flowers, a tomato, grapes & a granola bar cut in half to fit in the box. ;o)

A Picnic Lunch for Tuesday

Packed in the $1 bento boxes I found at the dollar store in Canada.

After all the money I have spent on bentos, bento supplies & shipping from Japan, who would have thought I'd find them at a dollar store? :P And they even have removable dividers.

Not that we are huge Spongebob fans, but for $1 I can overlook it. ;)

Faith has bone-shaped sandwiches, flower shaped cucumbers, carrots & a tomato, grapes and a pack of Yogo's (which are yogurt covered somethings).

Ben has cheese, crackers & sausage, grapes, fruit snacks and some animal crackers.

Hiatus

We are on a brief hiatus until the 19th. Kids & I are in Canada visiting my parents and so far, no need for bentos here. :o)

Faith's 4th of July Lunch

We are eating at home, so no official bento box, just dishwasher safe plates. ;o)

Today, we have a ham & cheese mini-stromboli, some crackers with cow shaped cheese, carrot sticks, a grape flower and Hello Kitty fruit snacks.

Real bentos

We went out for lunch with Nancy today to E Ji Bon.

Why do real Japanese bentos taste so much better than when I make them?

Shaun's Sunday Lunch

Once again, no picture, he left with his lunch before I got a chance to take one.

Either way, he had a chef salad (green salad with ham, cheese & eggs) with greek dressing, a tuna salad sandwich, grapes and some marshmallow treats from the Oriental market. Nothing too creative in his, I save my brilliant ideas for the kids. ;o)
