Cheer on Reading with #Cheerios! #FamilyReading

It's no secret that we all love to read in our house.  It's rare that each of us don't have multiple books in progress and I have long since lost track of how many books F&B read on a weekly basis.  I even ordered Faith a new book last week, only to find out that I also ordered it for her last year on her Kindle!

This year, Cheerios is celebrating the 12th Anniversary of their commitment to literacy through such programs as Cheerios Cheer On Reading and Spoonfuls of Stories. Cheerios created the program in 2003 to help get books into kids’ hands and encourage parents and kids to read together.  We actually still own several of the books from the first years of this program, including our Cheerios copy of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom that belonged to toddler Faith.

Look for specially-marked packages of original Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter, Chocolate Cheerios, and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios for in-pack storybooks for children ages 2 to 8 years-old, specially printed in both English and Spanish.

And, the part I especially love for my readers, for the second year in a row, Cheerios will also feature a chapter book for older readers inside specially-marked boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios. This year’s book, “Phineas L. MacGuire…Gets Cooking,” was written for exclusive release in Cheerios boxes by Frances O'Roark Dowell, author of the “Phineas” series. The book is written in three parts so there are three to collect! Ben is all set to collect the three parts.

The Cheer On Reading website also offers cute printable activities for each of their books.  F&B were peeking over my shoulder while I was putting together my post and insisted I print the bear activity that went with "Bear Says Thank You".  We all colored a bear tonight!  Seriously, coloring is therapeutic.

Do you pick your cereal based on the goodies in the box?  Will you get the Cheerios with the books too?  We're on a hunt for the three chapter books!

Make sure to check out all 6 picture book titles too!

  1. We still have some of these little books from years past. I think it is a wonderful idea.
