We love our Colorado life.  The outdoor options are amazing, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, hiking and rafting in the summer.  There are so many beautiful places to explore here, but they all have one thing in common.  They're usually remote!  What happens when you're out on that trail and getting grumpy because you're hungry?  The odds of finding a snack stand in the middle of the woods or river are pretty much slim to none.  SNICKERS® to the rescue!

That's why we make sure to pack properly for our trips.  We all end up hungry in the most difficult locations--middle of a hiking trail in Rocky Mountain National Park, way out on the Outback at Keystone, you name it!  No one ever gets hungry when there are stores around.  How to combat this?  In the winter, it means loading the pockets of our ski jackets with snacks and necessities, but for hiking trips in the warmer weather, a backpack is the way to go.  Here are our backpack necessities!

This week, we headed out to Garden of the God in Colorado Springs to do a little bit of family hiking, including Dante-dog.  The park is free and a close drive from our house.  Faith and Ben love all the rock climbing options and Dante is just happy to be out and about with us.  It is amazing natural scenery, with beautiful red rocks and other formations.

After a quick stop at 7-11 on the way to pick up SNICKERS® and a few extra waters to keep in the car, we headed out to Garden of the Gods to start our hike.  We love the new choices from SNICKERS®--SNICKERS® Extreme, Peanut Butter Squares, and SNICKERS® Almond.

The kids immediately took to their favorite climbing areas and Dante enjoyed being able to greet the many other visitors.  He and I walked quite a bit and, oddly enough, the dog is fairly agile on the rocks.

But after a whole lot of hiking and rock climbing?  There's a whole lot of hungry.

And when there's a whole lot of hungry?  There's a whole lot of cranky.

We stopped for a quick SNICKERS® break for the humans and a water break for the puppy.

But once we were happy and refueled?  It's hiking time again.  With crankiness averted, the rocks just begged to be climbed by Faith and Ben.  We walked around to several other of our favorite areas so the kids could play for awhile.  Hiking does take a lot of energy at 6500 feet to start and the park features a lot of sloped areas, so there's always a bit of an incline that has to be hiked.  We were definitely glad we packed extra water and a few extra SNICKERS® bars to get us through the day.
