It's no surprise that we love to read around here. From the time the kids were babies, we read every night.  They are equal opportunity readers too--graphic novels, regular novels, non-fiction, magazines, e-readers, you name it.  There is nothing better than curling up with a good book.

As a reading family, a house devoid of books is unfathomable.  That's why we are loving the current Kellogg's promotion at Sam's Club.  When you buy specially marked boxes of Kellogg's products, you can get two, free full-length Scholastic books. One book is for your family, the second is donated to a school in need near you. It's a win-win for everyone.  If you don't have kids at home, you can also choose to donate both books to a school in need.  There are lots of great choices, including several series both my kids love, along with Spanish books and e-books.

And what goes best with a book?  A yummy snack.  We made banana-bluberry parfaits to enjoy while we were reading this week, but they'd be an awesome dessert or breakfast too.  Or how about for na after school snack to get you through to dinner with fruit, yogurt, and a yummy treat? The possibilities are endless, just switch up the fruits or cereal. Here's how to make our version:

Gather up:
  • Sliced bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Frosted Flakes
In a mason jar, layer some banana and blueberries at the bottom, then add a sprinkle of Frosted Flakes.
Top with two-three spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt, then another layer of banana, blueberries, and Frosted Flakes.
Repeat to the top and eat immediately!

  1. I have read to my children every night since they were babies, too. We let each child pick out one book, and usually I read one and my husband reads the other. #client
