We are so ready for Halloween this year!  We moved to Washington this summer and our new neighborhood is really family friendly.  The kids are excited for decorating, trick-or-treating, and BOO'ing our neighbors.  We've already started on the house, and this week, we are BOO'ing our friends down the street.


Have you ever been BOO'd or BOO'd your friends?  It's a fun Halloween treat, left anonymously on the doorstep or desk.  Along with the treats, the giver leaves two cards, one explaining the BOO and a second with sign so that the receiver can let others know they've already been BOO'd.  This way, more BOOs can be spread around.

You can head over to the BOO It Forward page to get your printable card and sign to start this tradition in your neighborhood.  It's really easy:
1. Cut out the "We've been BOO'd sign.
2. Fold the "You've been BOO'd" greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
3. Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles.

Now, all moms know that kids are inevitably going to argue when something cool shows up at the door, so instead of making one big BOO basket, we made four mini ones!  And as an extra smart move, each basket contains identical items to keep everyone in the household happy.

We went to Walmart to pick up some goodies to fill in our BOO baskets, including the adorable Halloween Monster sodas (we bought 7UP®, A&W, and Sunkist® in the 8oz Halloween can 6 packs). We also got a couple of bags of candy--the Mars Mixed Minis and the Wrigley Monster Stash.  You can also download a printable coupon to save $2.00 on on ONE (1) 6pk 8oz Cans or TWO (2) 2L and 2 bags of Mars® Candy (well, you can if you're not me who prints the coupon and promptly leaves it at her house).

Besides filling our BOO baskets, we'll fill our Halloween handout baskets and my husband will take some to work (soldiers do NOT object to candy, we learned that years ago).  While browsing at Walmart, we found great little Halloween boxes, similar in style to popcorn boxes, so we purchased four of those, along with some Halloween pens, notepads, and keychains.

To make your own mini-BOO baskets:

• Lay out your containers and place one can of your monster soda in the center (so nothing else gets squashed!).
• Add some candy!
• Add some more candy!
• Add a few other goodies like our pens, notepads, and keychains!
• Print your BOO note and tuck it in with your goodies.
• Surprise your neighbors!

We're also making our favorite two ingredient cupcakes and decorating them with SKITTLES® and custom Halloween picks.

Yes, really, that's it!!!

All you need is 1 box white cake mix and 1 1/2 cans (12 oz) of Sunkist® Halloween sodas.

To make the cupcakes:

• Preheat the oven to 350°F and place muffin liners in a muffin pan.
• In a large bowl, mix the dry cake mix and Sunkist® till well beaten.
• Fill muffin cups about 2/3 full.
• Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
• Cool completely then decorate!

I had bought really cute cupcake wrappers a few weeks ago, but I wanted to save the plastic picks for bento lunches instead of cupcakes.  Instead, we bought adorable paper straws and made our own flag picks with those, paper sticker sheets, and mini stickers.

To make your own flag picks:

• Fold the sticker paper in over in a book fold and cut off that strip (see the tent folded paper up top).
• Cut 2 inch piece from that so you have what looks like a mini book.
• Trim those into pennant style triangles and affix a sticker to the front.
• Cut a straw in half, then remove the paper from the sticky side of your triangle, folding them over the straw to make a flag.
