Dinner Bento for Taekwondo

Taekwondo class tonight, kiddos at 5:30, Mommy & Daddy at 6:30. And we know they are going to be starving during our class, so I had to pack a bento to tide them over till their next meal. ;o)

They both have the same thing--shaped hardboiled eggs (Faith has a fish, Ben has a car), doll shaped turkey & cheese sandwiches on Nature's Own Honey Wheat bread, a Sweet Potato Cupcake, and fresh strawberries & blueberries.

And if you're so inclined to check it out, here's my first blog on TodaysMama:

It's fruit sushi the kids & I made that has vast bento potential, imho!

  1. I love your lunch ideas, I found you some time ago, and it was a heavenly blessing! I'd love to know how you shape the eggs, sorry if I missed that explanation.

  4. Jamie, thanks so much for the kind words! The eggs are shaped with molds, you can order them at a fairly reasonable price from Amazon or you can also use ice cream sandwich molds (mine are from Williams Sonoma). Basically, you boil the egg like normal, let it sit for 15 minutes, but peel it while it is still hot. Pop it into the mold and let it cool, then voila, a shaped egg! The other cute ones are just regular eggs cut in half but you can make faces with cucumbers, carrots, red lettuce, etc.

Kelly, thanks! Faith was about 4 when I started doing this, so Ben is already used to his food being cute. ;o) I love the reactions of other kids when they see it!
