Happy Little Salad Bento!

I couldn't think of a better title. This salad look so bright & cheerful, and it's smiling at us! Why can't all food be so happy?

It's actually a bento for Faith, minus the dressing (which was in a separate little cup with a tight lid).

She has a layered chef salad--lettuce, thinly sliced cucumber, carrots, grilled chicken, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, & hard-boiled egg slices. The eyes are just a blueberry cut in half for color. Even better, the mouth is our very first tomato from our garden! I would have liked it a bit more red, but the little birdies had pecked a small hole in one side, so we harvested it early and cut off the nibbled part. She has a little side of ranch in a small tupperware container, to keep the salad fresh.

On the right, she has the last piece of blueberry bread and freshly cut honeydew & strawberries from yesterday's fruit shopping extravaganza! It's all packed in one of her EasyLunchboxes.

Per Faith, this has been one of her favorite lunches lately. She loves chef salads, I really should make them more frequently.

  1. Looks like my kind of meal! YuM!

  2. That is so cute! And healthy, to boot!

  3. Sheri, I know! Faith doesn't really read blogs with me, so it cracked me up when she called it that!

  4. Omgosh Shannon! I totally did not know you made a smiling salad before until you included your photo in the Cooking Light Challenge! So cute!

  5. This is adorable. My son would love to open his lunch box and find this smiling salad.
