I've been trying to add in a few simpler bentos that look awesome without taking a ton of extra work on the part of the maker. I'm thinking that a simple little cheese critter might be one of the best ways to make a box look really cute without investing a ton of time in its creation.
This little giraffe only took a minute or two--two colors of cheese, a cookie cutter, a sugar eye, a straw to make the spots, and a teeny dab of cream cheese (think toothpick dots of cream cheese) to make it stick.
This box holds a couple of mini pita bread sandwiches (roast beef & white cheddar), topped with a cheese giraffe. The giraffe is stuck to the top sandwich with a couple of dots of cream cheese, just like his eye & spots are stuck on him. The other compartments hold a mini muffin & carrot sticks, honeydew and watermelon.
The box is a 4-compartment Lock&Lock container that I don't use often but always think I should. It's a great bento beginner box since it has separate inside pieces. They aren't 100% airtight, but Press & Seal can help if you use a container for something like yogurt. I bought mine at Target, but 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure they are available online, I'd check your local stores & see first.

Shannon - I love looking at your Bento boxes! I don't have kids yet but love looking at these and planning for future yummy (for both eyes and tummy!) lunch treats! Thanks for all the fun inspiration!
ReplyDeletewhere do you get those sugar eyes?
ReplyDeleteThank you! We just purchased this box from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Lock-3-6-Rectangular-Storage-Trays/dp/B000R9ZT2S/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1281554247&sr=8-12, and now we need to figure out lunches to pack in it. I'd love some more of your simple ideas for beginners.
ReplyDeleteplease, adopt me, I love your bento lunch boxes! ^^
ReplyDeleteThe giraffe is so cute. I need to look into the L&L really like yours!
ReplyDeleteOur Target doesn't carry them but I also bought some at Amazon. They were great last year when my teenager needed to pack a lunch every day. Got a little warped in the dishwasher though, as a warning. I often put a main dish in half the outer container and then used one or 2 of the smaller interior containers for other stuff.
ReplyDeleteNice looking giraffe! I love that watermelon background you're using. It's cute!
ReplyDelete:) cute giraffe! A simple & nice bento, like it. From where you got those sugar eyes?? Don't think M'sia have it :(
ReplyDeleteMy mom got them for me at a candy shop near her house, but Amazon sells them:
