Christmas Break

Woohoo! 25000 hits as of a few moments ago. I'm thrilled. My little blog for Krysta turned out to be a lot better than I thought!

F&B&I are heading out in the morning to spend our Christmas holidays at my mom & dad's. :o)

There might be bentos in Canada, there might not be, can't make any promises when someone else is doing the cooking. And really, who is going to argue with someone else doing the cooking!!! I'll try to have a couple of cute Christmas bentos, or at least some cute F&B pictures.

We'll be back for sure in early January, once Faith starts back at school.

Last Lunch of the School Year

Or at least the last lunch I have to make. Wednesday is the last day, but it's also hot lunch day. Since we are leaving Thursday morning, we are also finishing out foods in the house.

Faith got the last of a pasta salad, vanilla yogurt in the HK container, the last of the grapes, some koala cookies and a Nestle Crunch bar (so it's not all leftovers).

Monday Lunch (late)

OK, I'm backdating posts. We only had 2 lunches in the last 2 weeks (short weeks and a hot lunch day thrown in there).

Faith had turkey & cheese rollups (on not so attractive looking bread), fruit salad, koala cookies and some pasta salad. Not bad considering I didn't realize she needed lunch till that morning.

Weekend lunch for Shaun

It's not exciting, but since he asked me if I could bring him lunch at 11:30, it was the best I could do under pressure. ;o)

Let's see, he had the pasta salad that Faith has been eating, a flower shaped boiled egg, a sandwich with about 8 slices of meat & mayo on it (we'll pretend he doesn't have cholesterol issues), oreos, M&Ms and fruit salad.

Faith's Egg Experiment Lunch.

You just can't make shaped eggs and not feed them to the kids. ;o) So Faith got one for her Friday lunch.

She took pasta salad, mixed melons (in the HK container), some grapes and half a pig shaped boiled egg. The lunch box came home empty, must have been a hit.

An egg experiment

Today was pizza day at Faith's school, so no bento for her.

To make up for the lack of a lunch post, I decided this would be a good time to post another egg experiment.

As stated on Monday, I made boiled eggs. But since they are for Faith, they had to be cool boiled eggs, not just plain round ones. Now, I had 2 egg molds prior to this experiment (a star and a heart) but I also have some brand new ice cream molds that can double as egg molds from Williams Sonoma. I ordered them when I ordered F&B personalized aprons for Christmas. I've been wanting to use them, but the last few boiled eggs I have made have been for egg salad and shaped eggs do not fit into my handy-dandy egg slicer. As our saga continues, I boiled the eggs, I let them sit in boiling water, then I peeled them instead of submerging them in cool water. I placed them in the ice cream molds (and 1 actual egg mold because I had 3 eggs) and put them in the fridge.

Ice cream molds don't stay shut tightly, so I basically bungee-d them shut with rubber bands, like so:

Today, I removed the eggs from the molds and voila! I have a funky cow & pig shaped egg:

I showed them to Shaun & Ben, then put them on the kitchen counter for a moment. Ben sat on the floor next to them and cried because he wanted the cow egg. :o(

A different lunch for Monday

I got bored last night, so I figured why not make the girl something new for lunch. Thankfully, I had pasta salad mixes in stock in my pantry (stop laughing, I am NOT about to make pasta salad for a 5 year old from scratch). And we had ham & pepperoni and cheeses, so she got a really nice pasta salad out of the deal. I also boiled eggs, but that is another post entirely.

Anyhow, she took the new pasta salad (complete with pepperonis and ham), some grapes, some carrots, vanilla yogurt with blueberries (tucked into the little HK container, and some mini M&Ms for a treat. Go me, it's different!

Friday's Meat-free Lunch

Another food experiment, a meat-free lunch. And the burning question, did the girl notice?

She took cream cheese & jelly flower sandwiches, goldfish pretzels, vanilla yogurt with blueberries (in the HK container), carrot sticks with ranch dip (in the little bottle) and grapes.

And the answer to the question? Nope, didn't even mention it. ;o)
