Another Monday Lunch

Technically, it's my BBC lunch with leftovers from this weekend's meet up! And since I didn't take my kids, it's not even leftovers to Faith.



Faith had chicken flautitas from Cristina's, carrot sticks, vanilla yogurt, chocolate koala cookies and a few fresh strawberries (on sale at Sprouts for 4 for $5, I bought 4 and froze them, along with last week's blueberries and blackberries).

Friday's Kebab Fest

Yeah, I can't think of a better title right now. ;o) We're all a little sick of sandwich and sandwich-like creations, so I improvised.


Faith had cheese/turkey and cheese/ham kebabs, cantelope/grape kebabs, some carrots, some crackers and some koala cookies. Nothing came home but the empty kebab sticks!

No lunch today, Faith is off and my mom is still here, so she cooked. We had turkey soup in case you are dying to know. ;o)

I actually found the link on another board but thought the site was too cute not to pass on. It's a adventure game (think really kind of Indiana Jones) about the food pyramid and healthy choices. Faith played it the other day and really liked it, I was entertained too. ;o)

Back to School Monday Lunch

Back to school today after Spring Break, so Faith took her new box with her.



She had heart shaped sandwiches, a few koala cookies, some cucumber & carrots, vanilla yogurt, blueberries & blackberries. *I* thought it sounded good, but her tummy has been bothering her, almost all of it came back home. :o(

It's Mail Day

So it's still Spring Break. No lunches that I've had to make so no pictures. However the postman left a lovely surprise in our mailbox today!


Ben *had* to have this for preschool next year, he needed a couple of cute new boxes for the occasion.


And since I can't leave my girl out, this one is hers.

Got to love reasonable shipping from Japan, each box was only about $3 in shipping. Nice to have someone not charge $10 or so!

Some Spring Break Bentos

It's Spring Break this week and my mom & dad are visiting. I haven't been in the mood for bento-ing or even cooking. My mom is an awesome cook, so I'm sitting back and being spoiled with all sorts of yummy food.

However, I was the one in the kitchen when F&B decided they wanted lunch. I've been trying some more bento-like things with Ben and seeing how he does with all of his food in front of him at once. When he starts preschool in the fall, he'll eat there and it will be one container with everything accessible at once. Faith was always good at eating her food even if it was all presented together, but I want to see if he'd eat the sandwich or only eat the cookies (for example).


Faith had her Snow White box with some rabbit shaped sandwiches, goldfish, teddy grahams and some fruit cocktail (note to self, out of real fruit!).


Ben had the same combo in one of his Mickey shaped boxes, but boat shaped sandwiches with the goldfish, teddy grahams and fruit cocktail.

Honestly, they weren't exciting lunches, they weren't even an ideal combo, but I have really been wondering how Ben would do with his food all there. He did eat everything, with the fruit first. :o)

Friday's Orange-y Looking Lunch

It wasn't on purpose but the whole lunch has this orange-yellow glow to it. I'll blame the red container instead.



Faith had a cheeseburger muffin, some carrot sticks, some canteloupe, and some koala cookies. Nothing exciting, just semi monochromatic. ;o)

A Question for Y'all

I see all sorts of cool links in the Feedjit on the side and it got me thinking as to where all this is linked and how people find it.

I know where my DAM girls found it, Babycenter is likely from my signature there, but I'm kind of wondering about everyone else! :o)

So since we had no bento today (sorry, hot lunch and I've *got* to take advantage of that), tell me how you found me. And in case you didn't know, I love comments, so humor me please? ;o)

Monday's lunch in a new box!

Of course since I bought new boxes, we had to use a new box. Faith chose the Belle one today.


She had a boiled egg (sliced on my handy dandy egg slicer), a few cream cheese & jelly bears, grapes, carrot sticks and some graham cookies. For a small box, it holds a fair amount, I think it might be the depth.

And still more goodies

F&B and I were at the Disney store the other day and found the cutest containers. While they are not officially bentos, they are resealable snack containers. And they are really cute! They came in sets of 3 for $5.50 or three sets of 3 for $12. And because I love a bargain, we got 3 sets of 3.

More goodies!

So F&B and I stopped today to pick up a couple of boxes for some friends on DAM.

Alas, they did not have those boxes, but they were just putting out all of the "Putifresh" ones. I have been coveting one of those for awhile now but shipping from Japan is ridiculous. I am now proud to say I own my very own green set:

They also had full sets of pinks and yellows, I got one of each for the friends I was shopping for.

I did not get me the pink or yellow sets. I don't need them.
Really.
Truly.
Why do I have a bad feeling I'm going to end up back there for more? ;o)

Snow Day Lunches

Since it actually snowed in Texas today, we got stuck in the house. Frankly, driving in the snow doesn't phase me. Driving in the snow with Texas drivers? Yeah, we're staying home.

So we made fairly uncreative bentos for lunch, snow makes me lazy.


Faith had yogurt, vanilla oreo-like cookies, goldfish, carrot sticks, melons and a biscuit cup (I made these last night and she had about 4 of them).


Ben essentially had the same thing but no biscuit cup, he wanted a cheeseburger muffin instead. I obliged, we have tons of both.

Cheeseburger Muffins

Since I got a few emails & PMs (and a comment) about these, here's the recipe. Nothing fancy. By now you should all be aware, I don't do fancy. ;o)

Jiffy corn muffin mix (plus 1/3 cup milk & an egg)
Ground beef (for one package of muffin mix, at most 1/2 lb, but I'd guess less)
Shredded cheese (maybe a cup or so)

Saute the ground beef till it is cooked through, rinse & drain.
Mix together the corn muffin mix, egg & milk.
Stir in the ground beef and mix well.
Add shredded cheese till blended.
Spoon into muffin cups and bake for 15-20 minutes at 400 degrees (till a toothpick comes out clean)

One package of mix yielded 10 good size muffins. I wanted to make mini muffins but I didn't have wrappers for the pan.

Quick Monday lunch

This week, I planned well and put stuff together Sunday night for lunches. I baked a batch of cheeseburger muffins which should last a few days for the kiddos. Shaun has one right out of the oven and the response was favorable.



So for lunch, Miss Faith had a cheeseburger muffin, carrots & cucumbers, watermelon & grapes, and a granola bar. She informed me that the ends of the cucumber tasted "funny" so now I have to figure out why.

Friday's Meat-free Lunch, the sequel

Several weeks back, maybe even a couple of months, I tried the meatless lunch project on Faith. The verdict was she didn't even notice. I tried again today. I could pretend that it's Lent, so no meat on Fridays and aren't I organized, but yeah, right! ;o) It just worked out that way, I would have just as easily had a meatless Monday if that was the day I happened to do it.



Anyhow, the girl had two small slices of cheese pizza, carrot sticks, koala cookies, some vanilla yogurt (HK container) and three fruit kebabs (one canteloup, one grape and one honeydew if you look really closely!). And once again, she did not notice the lack of meat.
