Preschool Snack Bento #13 - A Simple Snack, because Mommy forgot

I know Ben goes to preschool on Mondays and Wednesdays. He has done that all this year *and* all last year. When Faith was in school, she went on Mondays & Wednesdays as well.

Yet noon on Monday rolled around and it hit me that I had to leave to take Ben to school in a half hour and I had yet to pack a bento lunch or snack for him. And we still kind of needed to make a grocery run.

This is the result:

We opted for meat & cheese kebabs on the leaf picks from the other day and diced canteloupe. Unfortunately, I forgot to send him crackers. At least he only goes for 2.5 hours, right?

Preschool Snack Bento #12 - Snack "Flowers" and Fruit

Ben had preschool again today, but he had a late breakfast. It was definitely more of a bento snack versus a bento lunch today. I asked him what he wanted and this was his choice. He even helped make the flowers.

Ben had meat & cheese flowers on Ritz crackers, stuck together with (hidden) sundried tomato and basil cream cheese, canteloupe chunks & red grapes. I'm not extremely proud that we opted for bologna flowers, but the kids really wanted it for a change. I do have to admit that it cut much better than the thinly sliced ham & turkey I prefer.

Preschool Snack Bento #11 - Fruit Kebabs and Sweet Pockets

Ben is back to preschool this week and the weather has taken quite the definitive turn towards fall in Dallas. To celebrate, we used our fall leaves picks to make fruit kebabs for his mini bento lunch snack. Grapes & canteloupe were on sale at Kroger this week, in case you ever wondered how I pick what fruit we use. It's all about the sale price, not the color or desires of the small people in my house. ;o)

Ben had the aforementioned fruit kebabs on leaf picks (alternating canteloupe and seedless red grapes) and mini flat bread stuffed with strawberry cream cheese. He was supposed to have 4 halves, but I accidently ripped on trying to open the pocket, so he ate that at home topped with the cream cheese instead of stuffed with it. He's easy to please.

And the winner is ...

Kanga, I will try to contact you via your blog or if you see this, email me at scarino @ gmail . com!

Thanks everyone for playing!

Contest Reminder

Sorry no more bento lunch or snacks this week. Ben was off preschool, Faith was feeling kind of icky and it seemed like a lot of effort when we weren't leaving the house.

Just a reminder that our boy (or girl) bento giveaway ends on Sunday. It's not too later to enter!

Preschool Snack Bento #10 - Pasta Salad & "Peanut" Fruits

I can't believe Mr. Ben is in his 6th week of school already! He is so loving it and I just adore his class.

For those of you who may not have read back a ways, per Ben, elephant = Peanut! So his real peanut-free classroom is safe, it's only decorated with plastic "Peanuts"!

And I'm being rather lazy today. We had our dear friends over for the weekend, so I had to throw something together right before Ben had to leave for school, oops. However, he ate it all and was happy, so that's what counts.

Ben had a pasta salad with ham strips and a couple of pepperoni & ham flowers (side note, thinly sliced deli ham doesn't cut up exceptionally well) and mixed melons with his Peanut picks. This would have been a perfect little bento lunch if there was more food. It's a very small Mickey Mouse box that is definitely snack sized.
And if you haven't left your name to win a Diego box, you should! It's right here.

Bento Giveaway - Diego Box & Food Picks

I haven't had a giveaway in awhile, and in honor of Mr. Ben starting preschool, I thought we should.

Up for grabs is a perfect little bento lunch box for your little guy (or girl, since it's Diego & Dora). I asked Ben which one he thought we should give away and he chose Diego. It's easier to find girl boxes than boy anyhow, so we are going with "boy" themed. As well, there is a pack of food pics (cupcake picks) in rainbow colors, perfect for mini kebabs!

This one is mine, the one we will send to the lucky winner is still sealed.

One Diego (& Dora) bento box with sealable lid and removable divider, plus one 12-pack of kebab sticks, 3 of each color!

This color is a little more representative. It's been a bit dreary in Dallas and the lighting in my house is just bad no matter what room I try to take pictures in.

To win, leave a comment between now & next Sunday, October 18th. We'll close it sometime on Sunday and draw a random number for a winner. :o)

Preschool Snack Bento #9 - Teddy Bear Crackers & Honeydew Trees

We are still loving the new picks from Avie! Ben wanted to know why I didn't use the other ones on Monday, so today's featured some of the other patterns. Plus the little tree trunks were perfect with flower-shaped honeydew to make adorable little trees!

He's getting another note from Mommy too, as soon as I find Mickey Mouse stickers for it. He still loves Mickey.

Today, Ben's bento lunch (snack) includes teddy bear crackers (cheese shaped bears, with pepperonis, cream cheese & Ritz crackers), and canteloupe & honeydew chunks, accented with a seal ball, two trees and a strongman. :o)

Preschool Snack Bento #8 - Fruits & Cheese & Love Notes from Mommy

A good lunch always involves new fun things *in* the lunch!

Sweet Avie from Avie's Bento send Ben a pack of the cutest food picks, complete with his very own "Peanut" picks! Peanut is his beloved elephant, we actually have Big Peanut, Little Peanut and Duncan (long story), plus we often find "Peanuts" while out shopping. They aren't elephants, all elephants are Peanuts!

Of course, we had to use his new Peanut picks in his bento lunch today:

Benjamin had a mini pita stuffed with herb cream cheese, cubes of cheddar cheese, and lots of canteloupe & honeydew with his cute new picks inside!

In keeping with my promise in my last post, I did put a special note from Mommy in his lunchbox!

It's still not too late to join in on the promise:

And, if you so desire, send me a picture for a post later this week! (Scarino @ gmail, feel free to include a link to your site too and I'll link it with your picture.)

And while F&B don't make regular appearances on this blog, I had to share my boy showing me his note from Mommy:

Isn't he cute??? :o)

Lunch Note Promise - Do Something Good!

This is too awesome not to share.

I'm not exactly a huge proponent of Lunchables. By now, if you've been reading this blog, you probably could have guessed that I'd rather make my own. My kids have had 1 in the last year, on a road trip because I wanted portable & disposable for a change. I will also admit that the new Lunchables look like they are trying to be more nutritious.

However, there are many kids where that might be the best food of their whole day, or their only food for that matter.

Kraft is running a promotion called "Lunch Notes Promise". For everyone who promises to write a note in their child's lunchbox, they will donate a meal to a child & their family in need through "Feeding America".

http://kraft.promotions.com/lunchnotespromise/front.do

I'm putting this one in Ben's snack on Monday, won't you consider doing the same?

Side note: I have nothing to do with the above promotion, nor anything to gain if you choose to participate. I just think it's a great idea and I am sure there are a number of blog readers that might agree. :o)

If you do decide to participate, feel free to share a pic of your note (scarino @ gmail.com works well without the spaces). I'll try to post some cute ones for ideas later this week!
