Time for Bunnies Bento

It's officially time for bunny bentos!

I was debating on waiting till April 1st, but needed something kind of cute today. So bunny it is!

Ben had mini pita pocket sandwiches, stuffed with leftover shredded BBQ chicken and cheese, topped with a cheese bunny. Below that, he had a few veggie chips and a banana muffin, while the whole right side is a melange of fruits--apple slices, strawberries and cantaloupe. Quick, easy, and I got to use out dinner leftovers to make it.

This week, we're giving away a copy of the Tangled dvd, hop over to this post to enter to win!

Back to Peanuts Bento for Ben

Time for a favorite standby bento today, since I'm less than inspired on a very cold/dreary Dallas day. Ben loves Peanut, I have Peanut picks, he gets a Peanut bento, everyone wins.

Today, he had a turkey and cheese sandwich on multi-grain sandwich rounds, decorated with his beloved Peanuts. To go with that, he had a banana-nut muffin with another Peanut pick, carrot sticks and the last of the grapes (the grapes needed to be finished, thankfully, this was the last of them).

I need the sun to come back out for more inspiration!

Star Bento for Ben

Since he's my little taekwondo star, of course. Actually, they both are, but Faith wanted something else for lunch.

We spent the weekend in Louisiana for the kids to compete at a TKD tournament. Faith came home with first in sparring, first in patterns for her division (she's 8 and an advanced blue belt). Ben won first in sparring, second in patterns for his division (he's 5 and a blue belt). Shaun didn't compete this time, just watched/coached the kiddos.

For lunch today, Ben had a cheese quesadilla, topped with cheese stars. He had a banana muffin (also with a star pick), cantaloupe with a few star shapes (and a few frozen blueberries from another project), grapes, pretzels and carrots as filler.

Back to life tonight, kids have TKD class, again!

Last day to enter the Yogi Bear dvd giveaway, if you haven't already done so, just leave a comment on the review blog post.

A Little Monkey Lunch for my Monkey Girl

Who, despite her strong desire to climb everything, does not enjoy being referred to as my monkey girl. Personally, if she didn't do things like climb the outside of the stairway or you know, jump off the second floor balcony and break her legs, I likely wouldn't call her my monkey.

Either way, Little Miss Monkey has a ham & cheese sandwich on the last of the tomato basil rolls we bought at Kroger (very very good rolls). The monkey pick helps hold it all together. She also has grapes with another monkey pick and a banana muffin, with one more monkey in it. Trying to finish out some things we already had made, so a little less creative, but we can make some new stuff now.

In unrelated news, I have a copy of the new Yogi Bear movie to give away! Leave a comment on this post in the review blog to enter! (Entries are due by 28-March and the winner will be drawn on 29-March.)

The Kids Cook Monday - Crockpot Chicken Soup, by Faith

Since she enjoyed making our video from last week, Faith wanted to make another one for The Kids Cook Monday! This week, we're having chicken soup in the crockpot, since the kids have TKD tonight and I have a couple of tutoring clients. It sounds lovely to come home to soup that's already finished!

Another Disney Bento, starring Cinderella!

My third Disney bento has published! It was to be princess-themed and the further I got with it, the more it seemed that Cinderella was a great fit for the theme

Head over to Disney's Family.com to find out how to make the berry bracelets, fairy wands and get the cutting template for Cinderella herself!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Bento!

Had to celebrate, just a little, since we've got a busy night and will not be having corned beef or cabbage today. I do have a very nice split pea soup in the crockpot, so at least we've got the color scheme going!

For lunch, the kiddos had sandwiches (ham & cheese on whole wheat rounds), topped with cheese shamrocks. If you don't have a shamrock cutter, 3-4 hearts are quite useful. To the right, we've got green honeydew, cut into clovers, and to the left, green cucumbers, also cut into clovers. A couple of green veggie chips and a couple of green little marshmallows round out the lunch.

In theory, I was going to make rainbow cupcakes again, but honestly? Those are cute but a huge pain to make. We'll have brownies instead.

More on Disney - Toy Story Alien Bento

My second Disney bento is now live! F&B and I love Toy Story and, while I know everyone loves Buzz & Woody, I'm just a little partial towards the squeaky aliens.

Check out the cute Alien cucumbers and how to make them and the rest of bento on Disney!

The Kids Cook Monday - Ants on a Log, a la Faith

Faith agreed to help out and make one of her favorite snacks for The Kids Cook Monday! It comes with ideas and video commentary. ;o) Do bear in mind that someone (aka Faith) won't eat peanut butter, so it's a slightly different take on ants on a log.

Kids Cook Monday has launched a great new site, be sure to check them out too for some neat ideas!

Another Fun CSN Opportunity

I've loved partnering with CSN stores thus far. They are the lovely folks behind several giveaways and goodies on here, along with offering over 200 stores, with products from LCD TV stands to bento items!

A Puppy Bento for Ben

With yesterday's Disney bento excitement (and yes, I'll still very very thrilled about that), I forgot to share Ben's actual lunch!

He opted for a ham & cheese sandwich on Nature's Own Whole Wheat Sandwich Thins, topped with a cheese puppy. To go with it, he has a banana nut muffin, also with a puppy pick, along with a boiled egg, a few carrots, cantaloupe and mixed berries.

And then he danced around the house singing "Ham, ham, it's all about ham!"

So apparently, it's all about ham around here.

Happy Bentos and Rainbow Cupcakes

Last night, Faith had a Brownie event where each girl needed to bring 2 dozen cupcakes. It was for Mardi Gras and being hosted by the church who sponsors our troop, so they asked for a bit of help. Now, I couldn't just buy cupcakes, that wouldn't be any fun, so Faith and I made rainbow cupcakes! We had a few leftover to add to our bento today. Rainbow cupcakes = happy bentos!

Miss Faith had cream cheese and jelly pita pockets, topped with cheese flowers, mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries & raspberries, even though I think Ben ate most of those), carrots and cucumber flowers, and one of the rainbow cupcakes!

You don't really get the full effect of the rainbow in the bento, so had to share one more picture!

I am in love with how cute the layers look. And I am now addicted to Wilton's canned icing with the decorating tips. So much easier than regular icing and it looked cuter too.

Muffin Tin Monday - Now with fresh tortillas

Faith mentioned the other day that we haven't had Muffin Tin Monday in awhile, so I planned on doing one today. Now, in my head, I had all sorts of grandiose ideas, but I went to Kroger this morning. And they had fresh butter tortillas, right off the baking machine. And the very nice tortilla lady gave me a sample, which means I came home with a fresh bag of butter tortillas.

Needless to say, lunch plans got scrapped so we could use some of these wonderful fresh tortillas. I still did put it in a muffin tin!

Faith had cheese quesadillas, a combo of monterey jack and sharp cheddar, along with a boiled egg and some pretzels. The bottom row has fresh cantaloupe, strawberry yogurt with sprinkles and some fresh strawberries.

Check out Muffin Tin Monday for more fun tins!

Picnic Day Bentos

I originally was planning on a fun pasta salad bento, maybe some other slightly messier items, then F&B decided they wanted to have a picnic in the front yard. It's a lovely day outside, so I scrapped my other plans to throw together a simple, easy-to-eat-on-your-lap lunch. Definitely a good idea on my part, they aren't quite the neatest eaters I've ever seen.

The kids had chicken & veggie stuffed muffins, along with a few pretzels, and a mixed fruit salad. This is obviously Ben's lunch, as is shown by a) the Peanut picks and b) the fact that I was able to include blueberries in the pasta salad. Faith had similar, but just the cantaloupe, strawberries and pineapple. The blueberries might poison her or something. ;o)

Koalas & Trains Bento for Ben

In retrospect, I should have done koalas and *planes* and then I could have had a Koala Brothers themed bento! (Does anyone else remember that show? I think it was on the Disney Channel for a short while a few years ago.)

Yesterday, we made it a point to finish all the various leftovers in the house, so no bentos to show. While leftover chicken enchiladas still taste yummy, they aren't great to look at, so no pictures to be had.

Today, however, was bento day again!

Ben has a meatless Monday meal, but on a Tuesday. ;o) He has cream cheese and strawberry jam mini-pita sandwiches, topped with a cheddar train with muenster wheels. To the left, there's a sliced boiled egg and a few carrots, then strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, and a mini banana muffin.

Thinking about trying a few more meatless meals in the mix for the kids and I. The three of us don't miss it (Shaun will), so it will have to be lunches for now.
